AAA to Honor Area Police for Traffic Safety Efforts

Western PA Police Departments to Be Honored with Prestigious AAA Awards

What:
51 Western Pennsylvania police departments will be awarded AAA’s prestigious Platinum Community Traffic Safety Award for their safety efforts.  An additional 47 departments will receive gold, silver, and bronze awards.

Who:
The following Police Departments will be recognized by AAA East Central:  Allegheny County, Avalon, Baldwin, Bethel Park, Brentwood, Bridgeville, Castle Shannon, Chatham University, Pittsburgh, Clairton, Edgewood, Elizabeth Township, Etna, Findlay Township, Green Tree, Hampton Township, Heidelberg, Homestead, Jefferson Hills, McCandless, McDonald, Monroeville, Moon, Mount Lebanon, Munhall, Northern Regional, Oakmont, Penn Hills, Pleasant Hills, Plum, Rankin, Scott Township, Shaler, South Fayette, South Park, Swissvale, Upper St. Clair, West View, Canonsburg, Carroll Township, Cecil, Charleroi, Chartiers Township, Donora, North Franklin Township, North Strabane Township, Peters Township, South Strabane Township, Washington, Cumberland Township, Waynesburg, Punxsutawney, Neshannock, New Castle, Shenango Township, Cranberry Township, Ford City, Kittanning, Worthington, Indiana, Cambridge Springs, Cochranton, Linesville, Meadville, Aliquippa, Beaver, Beaver Falls, Conway, Hopewell Township, New Brighton, New Sewickley, Rochester, Grove City, Hermitage, Clarion, Erie, Millcreek Township, Connellsville, Perryopolis, Uniontown, Greensburg, Jeannette, Ligonier Township, Monessen, Murrysville, North Huntingdon, and Southwest Greensburg.  Sheriff’s Departments in the following counties will be recognized: Washington, Greene, Indiana, Crawford , Allegheny, and Venango; and Pennsylvania State Police Troops A (Greensburg), B (Washington), D (Butler), E (Erie), and T (Turnpike).

Why:  
Motor vehicle crashes in Western Pennsylvania are a major cause of property damage, injury, and death each year.  The officers to be honored through the AAA Community Safety Awards Program continue to strive to reduce the number of fatalities by conducting educational programs and promotional campaigns to encourage the development of safe driving habits.
